Artificial intelligence (AI) can feel like a double-edged sword. Modern AI is a powerful, fast-moving technology that can dramatically reduce workload and spark new ideas, but these new tools and services can also undermine accuracy, quality, and trust when used incorrectly. The key is to approach AI not as a replacement for human expertise, but as a flexible tool that supports creativity, strategy, and informed decision-making. This presentation explores a variety of AI tools that can help to boost marketing and promotional efforts—from enhancing content creation to streamlining social media strategy. During this webinar, David Lee King will cover some general AI-related concepts and tools and how they can help in promotional efforts. Then he focuses on specific AI tools and services that can help strengthen website design and content and general marketing and promotion efforts. AI-related tools that can help fine-tune social media posts and campaigns are also discussed. Finally, the session examines some existing library AI policies and guidelines and will explore how they can support—or sometimes complicate—the day-to-day work of content creation, marketing, and promotion.

David Lee King is the Digital Services Director at Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, where he plans, implements, and experiments with emerging technology trends.
