Description
Do you ever encounter intellectual property (IP) questions, but don't know where to start? This webinar will introduce participants to the basics of the four main types of intellectual property: patents, trade secrets, trademarks, and copyright. Expertise may be more than you want or need, but a basic understanding of IP will allow librarians in many settings to recognize when intellectual property may come into play in an entrepreneurial context, when paten literature may be relevant to research, how to direct patrons to further resources offered by government agencies, and more. Instead of a lecture, this webinar will be fast paced and interactive, so come prepared for a collaborative learning experience.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this webinar, the participant will be able to:
- Distinguish the four main types of intellectual property
- Identify resources for further intellectual property support for library patrons
- Apply the forms of intellectual property to a hypothetical business ventures
- Plan common reference interview questions for intellectual property queries.
