Forward Thinking Leadership for the Modern Librarian (ALA Webinar) Online

The Massachusetts Library System is pleased to announce that we have contracted with ALA to provide our members with access to their live webinars.  These webinars are free to MLS members who register through our calendar.  Please do not register directly with ALA. Description

The challenges of the modern workplace require modern leadership. In our current political and financial climate, the ability to lead through transition and budget cuts is crucial. In this webinar, Amy Stubbing and Frank Berlanga will emphasize practical, forward-looking leadership, encouraging participants to reflect on practice while developing the confidence to lead with clarity, inclusivity, and evidence-based decision making. 

This webinar will consist of two 90-minute sessions allowing time for discussion, application, and reflection. Both sessions are underpinned by skills in data collection and analysis, ensuring participants can evidence impact, inform strategy, and make confident, transparent decisions.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this event, participants will be able to:

  • Make difficult decisions with confidence.
  • Create and implement a change management plan.

Presenters

Amy Stubbing is a leader in the library and information profession and has held roles in various parts of the sector. Her core areas of expertise and focus are data-driven decisions, inclusive practices, and management and organization. Her book Data-Driven Decisions: A Toolkit for Information Professionals was published in 2022 by Facet Publishing. As well as her role as University Librarian at Solent University, Amy is a consultant and trainer on using data within the workplace and making data-driven decisions. She is internationally active in the library and information profession, working with key professional bodies around the world to improve data usage and literacy.

Frank Berlanga is an experienced Resource and Operational Manager, having worked across industries and large scale corporations to deliver operational change and transformation of all types. Having worked extensively in his field, he now delivers training and consultancy to support businesses in their leadership approaches and business continuity planning. Additionally, he is highly experienced in using and training in advanced Excel as well as multiple WFM systems such as Teleopti, Injixo, and Verint.
