Prepping for the Midterms: Civic Literacy in Contentious Times Online
Understanding how the government works and how to access trustworthy information about elections is fundamental to a functioning democracy. This webinar will introduce librarians to the what, why and how of civic literacy. The presentation will cover a basic definition of civic literacy and its importance, followed by tips for developing instructional programs on civic literacy topics and highlights of some sample programs. Strategies for promoting civil discourse will also be included. This session will be led by Dr. Laura Saunders, Professor & Associate Dean at Simmons University, School of Library and Information Science and Director of the Simmons Center for Information Literacy.
