SUMMARY:[DEI Training Series] White Anti-Racist Allyship: What is our Role in the Struggle?
DESCRIPTION:From the disproportionate impact of Covid-19\, to anti-Asian 
 racism\, to the murder of Black people at the hands of the police\, over 
 the past months we have seen once again the devastating impact of 
 individual and systemic racism on the lives of BIPOC (Black\, Indigenous\, 
 and People of Color) in the United States. Many White people who want to be 
 supportive are wondering how we can best show up. This workshop focuses on 
 self-awareness\, knowledge of historic and current racism\, and skills 
 necessary to be coconspirators in the fight against racism. In this time\, 
 it is important we support and challenge one another\, rather than 
 burdening BIPOC with the expectation of educating us. Although this session 
 will center on the role of White people in work for racial justice\, 
 Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color are welcome to attend and 
 participate the conversation.\n\n \n\nWill this Workshop be Recorded? 
 No.\n\n \n\nIntended Audience: This workshop is appropriate for library 
 staff at any level or position.\n\n \n\nAbout the Instructor: Ilsa Govan is 
 co-founder of Cultures Connecting. Ilsa has more than 15 years of 
 experience as a facilitator\, consultant\, writer and social justice 
 activist. She has led conversations about racial equity at workshops and 
 conferences across the country and helps coordinate the white caucus at the 
 annual national White Privilege Conference. Prior to Cultures Connecting\, 
 Ilsa worked as an Equity and Race Specialist for Seattle Public Schools 
 where she was tasked with addressing institutional racism in a large 
 organization.  She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from 
 Western Washington University and her Master's Degree in Bicultural Human 
 Development from Pacific Oaks College Northwest. Ilsa is deeply invested in 
 examining how her own identity influences her interactions with others\, 
 particularly through the lens of privilege and oppression. Ilsa is the 
 co-author\, with Caprice Hollins\, of Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion: 
 Strategies for Facilitating Conversations on Race.
