Managers as Trainers: How to Provide Effective 1:1 Workplace Training

Managers as Trainers: How to Provide Effective 1:1 Workplace Training In-Person

Description:
Library professionals are equipped with numerous skills to help their staff and communities. But who expected to add “trainer” to their list of skills when they became a manager? This workshop will introduce you to an easy, 4-step framework that will enable you to provide effective one-on-one workplace training. During this workshop, you will use this framework to begin creating your own training on a topic of your choice. Once you have learned this framework, you will be able to use it to train for the rest of your professional career. Engaging, practical, and fun, this workshop will increase your confidence and effectiveness as a manager.

Outcomes:
The purpose of this workshop is to enable managers to confidently and effectively train individual staff members. By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the four steps of effective one-on-one workplace training.
  • Create a job breakdown sheet (JBS) for a library task.
  • Create and model a quick demo training on their chosen topics.

Length: Two Hours

Delivery Mode: This is an online workshop that will be held on Zoom.

Level of Engagement: This workshop will have a high level of participant engagement and interaction. Participants will need a camera to fully participate in the workshop activities and will be expected to keep their camera on throughout the workshop.

Preparation: Prior to the workshop, each participant should:

  • Download and print a paper copy of the Participant Manual, which will be emailed a few days before the workshop. This Participant Manual is an integral part of the workshop.
  • Come with an idea for a SIMPLE library task on which you will begin to build a 1:1 training session.
