SUMMARY:Getting Started with Book Mending (ALA Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:The Massachusetts Library System is pleased to announce that we
have contracted with ALA to provide our members with access to their live
webinars. These webinars are free to MLS members who register through our
calendar. Please do not register directly with ALA. Members who register
directly with ALA are responsible for paying their registration fee.
\n\nPlease help us keep MLS sponsored training free for all members. If you
are unable to attend the live webinar\, please cancel your registration. A
cancellation link can be found in your confirmation email\, or you may
contact Sarah Donnelly at sdonnelly@masslibsystem.org to cancel.
\n\n\nDescription\n\nWith budgets shrinking and communities trying harder
to be eco-conscious\, it is more important than ever to utilize our
resources wisely. This webinar will provide learners with an introduction
to three very common book construction issues that are endemic to the
modern construction of books with flimsy paper covers and ineffective
adhesives. The information will be presented in a way that any size library
can benefit from and provides a sliding scale of alternative tools and
materials for every budget.\n\n\n\nLearning Outcomes\n\nBy taking this
webinar\, participants will:\n\n\n	\n	Understand the difference between
library book mending and archival book repair.\n	\n	\n	Discover how to
improve the strength of highly circulated library books so that they will
have more circulations.\n	\n	\n	Learn how your library can be more
sustainable and save money through relatively inexpensive\, quick fixes for
 very common modern book problems.\n	\n\n\n\n\nPresenter\n\nSophia Bogle’s
expertise is in book restoration\, with over 30 years of experience
restoring valuable books. She has a diploma in Book Conservation from the
American Academy of Bookbinding and has been teaching book repair and
restoration online as well as in-person at libraries\, universities\, and
to book collectors for many years. Sophia received her MLIS from San Jose
State University and is currently working at both the Springfield and
Eugene Public Libraries in Oregon.\n\n\n\nAccessibility Information\n\nIf
you have questions or requests regarding accessibility\, contact ce@ala.org
 or at 312-280-5100.
