Readers' Advisory Roundtable - West, Contemporary Fantasy, Past Lives

Readers' Advisory Roundtable - West, Contemporary Fantasy, Past Lives In-Person

Join us for our Reader’s Advisory Round Table of Western MA Round the Table Genre Study.  Our benchmark title is Hindsight by Mindy Tarquini.  People born with a caul on their heads have foresight; people born with cauls on their hineys are stuck with the past. Eugenia Panisporchi is a thirty something who teaches Chaucer at Temple University.  She lives in South Philly with her mother and sister and is haunted by her past lives.  She is desperate to change her future.  Eugenia’s relationships with her family, neighbors, and students are laugh out loud funny and poignant at the same time.

We meet online monthly to explore various genres and readers advisory skills and how to use them to meet the needs of our users.  We study the appeal of a particular genre, the readers who may enjoy that genre, and ways to incorporate them into our readers’ advisory services.  We select a benchmark title that we all read, then each of us reads a second title in the genre as our personal selection.  We discuss and compare the titles and their characteristics. We also find items of alternate media in the same general area using our whole collections as a resource.

In alternating months, in our Chat sessions, we share what we have been reading and develop suggestions for materials with similar tone and appeal.

Join us for conversation, edification, and an opportunity to share reading/viewing/listening opportunities.
