Diversity and Your Library Webinar In-Person
Over the past several decades, while discussion of diversity in publishing has garnered attention, the actual proportion of books in which historically underrepresented children can find themselves has, woefully, plateaued. According to the latest statistics released this year by teh Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC), while 37 percent of the country's population are people of color, only 11 percent of the children's books published in the past 23 years contain multiracial content.
In partnership with Kirkus Reviews, Baker & Taylor is excited to present Diversity and Your Library: Meeting the Needs of Our Modern Communities. Librarian, book critic, and diversity advocate Laura Simeon will be joined by Vicky Smith, Kirkus Reviews' children's and teen book editor, to offer insight into how diverse books benefit all libraries and how you can use Kirkus Collections to discover titles that:
- Meet modern standards of sensitivity and respect;
- Deliver great reading experiences; and
- Demonstrate literary and artistic merit.
