Participants will learn what a data visualization is and how to design visualizations for various types of communication to increase comprehension while taking into account accessibility needs. We will cover different types of visualizations including charts, diagrams, mapping and infographics. Tools for color, chart selection and accessibility will be presented and participants will gain practice doing chart and visualization ‘makeovers’.

As a result of this workshop, participants will:

  • Be able to identify the key steps in creating a data-informed visualization
  • Have increased confidence in choosing the right chart or graphic to effectively display data
  • Be familiar with basic design principles that enhance comprehension and accommodate accessibility needs
