Readers' Advisory Roundtable - West, Animals Playing a Major Role Genre Study Online
Welcome to our western Mass Readers Advisory genre study. To begin the fall, our benchmark is Horse by Geraldine Brooks which blends contemporary and historical narratives, relationships, and racial realities in the U.S. It promises a stimulating and informative discussion. The story of Lexington, a foundation sire race horse, offers a love story, perspectives of a scientist and an art historian, Lexington's owners and groom, and the respective times of all of them.
We will discuss the appeal of our benchmark and the audience for it as well as readalikes to suggest to users if the book is unavailable. Each of us will read a second title of our choosing in the genre as our personal choice. We exchange ideas, define the appeals of the books, suggest books and other media, and come away with an awareness of additional titles to offer our users. Join us online to share your choices and hear those of colleagues.
We meet bimonthly via Zoom to explore various genres and readers advisory skills and how to use them to meet the needs of our users. In alternate months, in our Chat sessions, we share what we have been reading/watching/listening to and discover new titles, authors, and topics to enjoy.
Those who register for sessions will receive an email reminder a week before our meeting. For questions or suggestions, contact Alene Moroni (amoroni@forbeslibrary.org) or Jan Resnick (njrezz@comcast.net).
