Members who register directly with ALA are responsible for paying their registration fee.

Please help us keep MLS sponsored training free for all members. If you are unable to attend the live webinar, please cancel your registration. A cancellation link can be found in your confirmation email, or you may contact Sarah Donnelly at sdonnelly@masslibsystem.org to cancel.

Description

Get kids moving during your program events, regardless of your level of experience with music or movement activities! Unlike traditional storytime models in which children are expected to sit quietly, music and movement storytimes encourage children to embody concepts and interact with others. In this webinar, expert children’s programmer Alyssa Jewell shows you how you can develop interactive learning experiences in which children engage in moving, music-making, and story drama.

Learning Outcomes

By participating in this event, you will:

  • Learn how to design music and movement storytimes that anyone can implement, regardless of your experience with music or movement activities.
  • Learn practical tips for leading storytimes that smooth tough transitions and curb chaos.
  • Gain valuable advice for material selection that will take your storytimes to the next level.
  • Discover game-changing books, children’s musicians, and professional resources that you can immediately use in your programs.

Presenter

Alyssa Jewell, MLIS, is a musician and children’s library specialist from Birmingham, Alabama. Her favorite part of the job is storytime. Before entering the library world, Jewell graduated from Emerson College with a degree in theatre education and a minor in psychology. She is certified to teach grades K–12 and has taught theater, music, and movement in a variety of educational settings. She is passionate about creating next-level storytimes infused with these practices and loves bringing stories to life for children and families. She has also cowritten three musicals for young audiences and four indie rock albums.
