Northeastern MA Readers' Advisory Round Table In-Person

The Northeastern Readers' Advisory Round Table studies Diversity Arc#2: Fantasy Fiction.

Benchmark: Everyone Reads the benchmark: N.K. Jemisin’s The Fifth Season (2015):The Broken Earth trilogy#1 OR You may read one of the others in the series--#2: The Obelisk Gate (2016); #3: The Stone Sky (2017).

Over 2019 we are taking a deep dive into Diversity as a theme. The list of books and the notes on what we learn in our discussions will be found on our blog.

Please read a 2nd title in Diversity: Fantasy Fiction--look on the RA RT Blog for a list of suggested titles and some supporting materials.

Appeal to be read for March meeting: Focus on all the appeal factors, but really think about frame, tone & character.

Meeting every other month, the NE RA RT reads from one genre--and then discusses the appeal of that genre with each other emphasizing the building of a skill set of appeal categories and familiarity of genre particulars. They cover a different genre every meeting, allowing each of the participants to be introduced to the discipline of reading for appeal, as well as an initiation to broad genre categories. Everyone participating will be able to share analysis of titles and authors in unfamiliar genres that will stretch their capacity as readers' advisors.  The discussion leader is Leane Ellis (rapotential@gmail.com).
