Southeastern Mass. Reader's Advisory Roundtable (SE-RART) Meeting

Southeastern Mass. Reader's Advisory Roundtable (SE-RART) Meeting In-Person

NOTE: Date has been changed from October 23 to December 4, 2019.

The Southeastern Mass. Reader's Advisory Roundtable (SE-RART) begins its 2019-20 year with a study into developing readalike lists for popular authors/titles. We're calling it Everyone Likes Readalikes, and the first meeting will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, 10 am-12 pm, at SAILS Library Network, 10 Riverside Drive, Suite 102, Lakeville.

For our first meeting, we are going to talk about best practices for developing readalike lists by title, using the benchmark title as a starting point (i.e. "If You Liked The Mother-in-Law"). We will also talk about using NoveList to find readalikes; pros and cons of creating lists of readalikes by title; best practices for book lists in general; and reader's advisory tips and tricks to share.

Benchmark Title: The Mother-in-Law by Sally Hepworth

Instead of reading the benchmark title AND a second title, please read as much of the benchmark title as you can and bring along one or two possible readalike titles, along with a brief annotation or quote from a journal or magazine review that gives an idea of why each would be a good readalike for the benchmark title.

Reading the entire benchmark title is not required to attend! New members and curious visitors are always welcome to register and come to a meeting to see what it's all about. Registered attendees will be emailed short additional reader's advisory-related readings ahead of the meeting.

More information is posted on the SE-RART blog at https://rartsoutheastma.wordpress.com.
