Northeastern MA Readers' Advisory Round Table
The Northeastern Readers' Advisory Round Table studies Science Fiction Arc#1: Hard Science.
Everyone reads the benchmark: Daniel H. Wilson’s Robopocalypse (2011) AND/OR Nnedi Okorafor’s Binti (2015) (OR any of the novellas: Binti: Home (2015); Binti: The Night Masquerade (2018).).
Over the first three meetings in 2020 we are studying Science Fiction. The list of books and the notes on what we learn in our discussions will be found on our blog. We will discuss CliFy in March and Military Adventure in May.
Please read a 2nd title in Science Fiction: Hard Science--look on the RA RT Blog for a list of suggested titles and some supporting materials.
Appeal to be read for January meeting: Focus on all the appeal factors, but really think about frame, character, and tone.
Meeting every other month, the NE RA RT reads from one genre--and then discusses the appeal of that genre with each other emphasizing the building of a skill set of appeal categories and familiarity of genre particulars. They cover a different genre every meeting, allowing each of the participants to be introduced to the discipline of reading for appeal, as well as an initiation to broad genre categories. Everyone participating will be able to share analysis of titles and authors in unfamiliar genres that will stretch their capacity as readers' advisors. The discussion leader is Leane Ellis (email@example.com).
Cancellation Policy: If the town/city of the location of the meeting cancels public schools, and/or there is a parking ban–the meeting will be cancelled even if the library in question remains open. We do not have an alternative date. Leane will modify the upcoming schedules to reflect the missed meeting. Leane will broadcast the cancellation of the meeting due to inclement weather by 7:00am or before from the Google group, and post it on this website.
