Virtual NE MA Readers' Advisory Round Table

The Northeastern Readers' Advisory Round Table studies Science Fiction Arc#2: CliFy (Climate Science Fiction) and *RA Toolbox. (Postponed from 3/24/20) This will be a Virtual Meeting--Details TBA.

RA TOOLBOX is cancelled and will be postponed to a later date. (4/30/20)

Please contact discussion leader Leane Ellis (rapotential@gmail.com) if you have questions or wish to virtually attend.

Everyone reads either/or both of the benchmarks: John Lanchester’s The Wall (2019) AND/OR Cherie Dimaline’sThe Marrow Thieves (2017) as a Diversity title.

Over the first three meetings in 2020 we are studying Science Fiction. The list of books and the notes on what we learn in our discussions will be found on our blog. We discussed Hard Science Fiction in January and will talk about Military Adventure in November.

Please read a 2nd title in Science Fiction: CliFy--look on the RA RT Blog for a list of suggested titles and some supporting materials.

Appeal to be read for May meeting: Focus on all the appeal factors, but really think about frame, tone, and plot.

Meeting every other month, the NE RA RT reads from one genre--and then discusses the appeal of that genre with each other emphasizing the building of a skill set of appeal categories and familiarity of genre particulars. They cover a different genre every meeting, allowing each of the participants to be introduced to the discipline of reading for appeal, as well as an initiation to broad genre categories. Everyone participating will be able to share analysis of titles and authors in unfamiliar genres that will stretch their capacity as readers' advisors. The discussion leader is Leane Ellis (rapotential@gmail.com).

RA TOOLBOX is cancelled and will be postponed to a later date.

*RA Toolbox are workshops that allow participants to learn and explore RA topics and skills. They take place from 11am to 12N during a regular NE RA Round Table meeting, following a genre discussion (topic listed first in posting) in the first hour (10:00 to 11:00am).

Cancellation Policy: If the town/city of the location of the meeting cancels public schools, and/or there is a parking ban–the meeting will be cancelled even if the library in question remains open. We do not have an alternative date. Leane will modify the upcoming schedules to reflect the missed meeting. Leane will broadcast the cancellation of the meeting due to inclement weather by 7:00am or before from the Google group, and post it on this website.
