VIRTUAL NE RA Round Table

The Northeastern Readers' Advisory Round Table studies Relationship Stories.

(Note: This is a Virtual Meeting sponsored by the Chlemsford Public Library. Members will recieve a link to sign-up via our Google Group, anyone else who is interested should email Leane at rapotential@gmail.com)

Everyone reads BOTH benchmarks: Gail Honeyman’s Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine (2018) AND                                                      Thrity Umrigar’s The World We Found (2012) as the Diversity title.

In addition, read a third Choice title. Please upload your review of this Choice title in this category either from the suggested list on the other side, the longer list on our blog, or one that you choose yourself on our blog under Submit Choice Titles. When writing your reviews, please include at least one title in the category of Whole Collection RA (different genre/format; like nonfiction or film) and other Readalikes.

Please look on the RA RT Blog for a list of suggested titles and some supporting materials.

This Round Table studied Relationship Fiction (Formerly Womens' Lives & Relationships) only once before in March 2009.  This time we are taking the entire summer to read and reflect on what makes Relationship Stories such a thriving and popular genre that often contains the appeal of other genres like Suspense, Mystery, Romance, Literary, and Historical.

Appeal to be read for September meeting: Focus on all the appeal factors, but really think about character, tone, and plot.

Meeting every other month, the NE RA RT reads from one genre--and then discusses the appeal of that genre with each other emphasizing the building of a skill set of appeal categories and familiarity of genre particulars. They cover a different genre every meeting, allowing each of the participants to be introduced to the discipline of reading for appeal, as well as an initiation to broad genre categories. Everyone participating will be able to share analysis of titles and authors in unfamiliar genres that will stretch their capacity as readers' advisors.  The discussion leader is Leane Ellis (rapotential@gmail.com).
