Building Community Partnerships: A Rural Library’s Guide In-Person
The Massachusetts Library System is pleased to announce that we have partnered with ALA Publishing to provide opportunities to learn library management skills from leaders in the field. This series is free for Massachusetts library workers, sponsored by a grant from the Manton Foundation. While information is scaled to smaller public libraries, all Massachusetts library staff and volunteers, in any type of library, are welcome to register.
Libraries serve their communities above all else, and it’s crucial that librarians work not only with people in the community, but also with institutions, business and government agencies.
Building positive and productive relationships with these organizations can be particularly challenging for small and rural libraries for several reasons—smaller populations, smaller budgets, geographic isolation and many others. They are well worth the effort, however, as a successful partnership can lead to everything from content to marketing to funding as they further cement the library’s status as an indispensable member of the community.
In this workshop, library consultant Andrew Sanderbeck will show you how you can overcome these obstacles and build sustainable partnerships, regardless of the size of your library.
After participating in this event, you will be able to:
• Utilize The Do’s and Don’ts of Approaching a Potential Partner
• Start with Why: Identifying Community Partners that Fit
• Focus on Building Relationships with Community Partners
• Know When to End a Community Partnership
