Virtual NE MA Readers' Advisory Round Table In-Person

The Northeastern Readers' Advisory Round Table studies Fantasy Fiction Arc#1: Fairy Tales & Myths.

(Note: This is a Virtual Meeting sponsored by the Danvers' Peabody Institute Library. Members will recieve a link to sign-up via our Google Group, anyone else who is interested should email Leane at rapotential@gmail.com)

We began 2021 with a three-month study arc of Fantasy Fiction.  Our first study will be on Fairy Tales & Myths, followed by Paranormal Suspense in March, and ending with Genre Blends in May.

Assignment: Everyone reads either/or both of the benchmarks:  Katherine Arden’s The Bear and the Nightingale (2017) AND/OR Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s Gods of Jade and Shadow (2019) as a Diversity title.

In addition, please choose and record your Choice titles in this category either from the suggested list on our blog, or one that you choose yourself and submit it on our blog under Submit Choice Titles.

For appeal, please focus especially on frame, tone and character.

Meeting every other month, the NE RA RT reads from one genre--and then discusses the appeal of that genre with each other emphasizing the building of a skill set of appeal categories and familiarity of genre particulars. They cover a different genre every meeting, allowing each of the participants to be introduced to the discipline of reading for appeal, as well as an initiation to broad genre categories. Everyone participating will be able to share analysis of titles and authors in unfamiliar genres that will stretch their capacity as readers' advisors. The discussion leader is Leane Ellis (rapotential@gmail.com).
