Virtual NE MA Readers' Advisory Round Table

The Northeastern Readers' Advisory Round Table studies Fantasy Fiction Arc#2: Paranormal Suspense.

(Note: This is a Virtual Meeting sponsored by Methuen's Nevins Memorial Library. Members will recieve a link to sign-up via our Google Group, anyone else who is interested should email Leane at rapotential@gmail.com)

We continue our 2021 three-meeting study arc of Fantasy Fiction with Paranormal Suspense**.  Our first study in January was on Fairy Tales & Myths, and we will end with Genre Blends in May.

Assignment:  Everyone reads either/or both of the benchmarks:  Brad Abraham’s Magicians Impossible (2017) AND/OR Rebecca Roanhorse’s Trail of Lightning (2018): Sixth World#1.

**Please note that many Paranormal Suspense titles may also be considered Urban Fantasy and/or a Genre Blend.

In addition, please choose and record your Choice titles in this category either from the suggested list on the handout, the longer list below, or one that you choose yourself and submit it on our blog under Submit Choice Titles.

For appeal, please focus especially on frame, pace, and tone.

Meeting every other month, the NE RA RT reads from one genre--and then discusses the appeal of that genre with each other emphasizing the building of a skill set of appeal categories and familiarity of genre particulars. They cover a different genre every meeting, allowing each of the participants to be introduced to the discipline of reading for appeal, as well as an initiation to broad genre categories. Everyone participating will be able to share analysis of titles and authors in unfamiliar genres that will stretch their capacity as readers' advisors. The discussion leader is Leane Ellis (rapotential@gmail.com).
