VIRTUAL NE MA Readers' Advisory Round Table
The Northeastern Readers' Advisory Round Table studies Horror II.
(Note: This is a Virtual Meeting sponsored by Wakefield's Lucius Beebe Memorial Public Library. Members will recieve a link to sign-up via our Google Group, anyone else who is interested should email Leane at firstname.lastname@example.org)
Assignment: Everyone reads BOTH of the benchmarks: Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s Mexican Gothic (2020) AND Grady Hendrix’s Horrorstör (2014).
Please also read a Choice title in this category either from the suggested lists below on our blog, or one that you choose yourself; and then post a review on our blog under Submit Choice Titles.
Thank you to Verónica Rodríguez and Brigid Black who will be co-leading our discussion in September for their valuable contributions to the lists and the discussion to come. They will be providing a short overview of historical influences and appeal of this rich genre before we discuss our benchmarks.
Horror Averse? Check out the list below for Gentler Horror titles. Still wigged out? Please join us anyway to lurk and learn from the discussion. Instead of reading the assigned or Choice books, try to Speed Read a Gentler title and/or read a few reviews of the title or author for the Appeal. Need to talk about it? Email Leane (email@example.com)
See NE RA RT BLOG for lists & resources.
THE NE RA RT first studied Horror 11/23/10.
Meeting every other month, the NE RA RT reads from one genre--and then discusses the appeal of that genre with each other emphasizing the building of a skill set of appeal categories and familiarity of genre particulars. They cover a different genre every meeting, allowing each of the participants to be introduced to the discipline of reading for appeal, as well as an initiation to broad genre categories. Everyone participating will be able to share analysis of titles and authors in unfamiliar genres that will stretch their capacity as readers' advisors. The discussion leader is Leane Ellis (firstname.lastname@example.org).
