Make Shift Happen : weeding the physical collection In-Person
Weeding is fundamental to collection management, and one of the most commonly neglected professional responsibilities we hold as the stewards of our community's information. There are many good reasons to weed, but there are a lot of opportunities to defer the task. With humor and energy, we will explore the history of weeding in our profession and how well weeded collections benefit patrons and staff. We'll examine professional standards and tools to help you plan and conduct your weeding project with confidence and clarity. Class content is relevant for any type of library (public, school, special, and academic). This class is recommended for library staff new to weeding practices, reluctant weeders, and experienced weeders who would like to get excited about weeding again. This is nearly the same class as was offered in fall 2019. Some content has been changed to respond to learner feedback.
Learning outcomes:
Learners will be able to apply to professional standards to their weeding practices immediately.
Learners will be able to apply to make reasoned weeding decisions.
