Transforming Teen Services: Create - and Support! - Meaningful Teen Programs & Services

Transforming Teen Services: Create - and Support! - Meaningful Teen Programs & Services

This is a five-week class that will run on Friday afternoons from 2-3 pm. Participants will register for the first session only (October 16th) but in doing so are committing to the full five-week program.

Library staff working with youth and teens are invited to join us for a multi-week blended learning online course about “Transforming Teen Services.” This interactive experience will focus on the basics and application of Connected Learning (CL) within library services for youth – that is, the intersection between interests, relationships and opportunities. In five weeks of activities and group discussion, participants will learn how to incorporate Connected Learning into their work, and to utilize the concepts to truly meet the needs of - and advocate for - the young adults in their community.

Each week participants will have access to videos, readings and activities through an online learning management system. Then on Fridays at 2pm the group will convene for live discussions about the topics covered, facilitated by MLS Consultant, Christi Showman Farrar, and MBLC Project Manager and Grants Specialist, Lyndsay Forbes.

Week 1: What is Connected Learning? (October 16)
Week 2: Self-Reflection on Connected Learning (October 23)
Week 3: Theory into Practice (October 30)
Week 4: Connected Learning and Your Library (November 6)
Week 5: Connected Learning: What's Next? (November 13)

Transforming Teen Services is offered by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) in partnership with the Massachusetts Library System and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. It is made possible through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS.)
