Transforming Teen Services: The Pursuit of Educational Equity

Transforming Teen Services: The Pursuit of Educational Equity In-Person

As a part of our ongoing “Transforming Teen Services” project, MLS and MBLC are happy to offer this 5-week multi-modal online course for library staff working with teens. Through readings, videos, individual work and live weekly online discussions, you will learn how Connected Learning as a concept goes hand-in-hand with the aim of educational equity, and how both are foundational to successful library service.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course you will be able to:
Analyze your own library services with regard to educational equity concepts
Describe to library administration 1-2 changes that need to be made in the library to make it more equitable to all students/patrons
Design at least one new program or service for your students/patrons

Week 1: What is Educational Equity (April 9)
Week 2: Identity Unpacked (April 16)
Week 3: Recognizing Implicit/Unconscious Bias (April 30; note: no session April 23)
Week 4: Educational Equity in the Library (May 7)

This course has no prerequisite and is open to any Massachusetts library staff member who works with teens.
