Reimagining School Readiness Workshop In-Person
Do you wonder what research really says about how to support school readiness? The Reimagining School Readiness Toolkit is a suite of research-backed resources created for library staff to help families prepare children ages 0 to 8 for success in school and in life. Through an interactive presentation with hands-on activities, this training will introduce library staff to the research, practical implications, and resources offered in the toolkit, which is available in its entirety for free online. Participants will understand key findings from current cognitive and developmental psychology research, reflect on the implications of those findings for their daily work, and gain practical ready-to-implement ideas for activities, as well as resources for staff training and for parents/caregivers. You will benefit from this workshop if you work with children ages 0 to 8 and their families and would like to learn more about how to offer research-backed programming in your library! This workshop is an interactive, virtual event led by Shelley Quezada from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, Laurie Collins from the Ipswich Public Library, and April Mazza from the Massachusetts Library System.
At the end of this workshop:
Attendees will gain insights into the current research behind the skills and conditions that matter most for a child’s success in school and life.
Attendees will experience hands-on activities that they can replicate with their community.
Attendees will be able to apply the Reimagining School Readiness Toolkit so that they can create quality school readiness programming.
This two-part workshop will be held on Tuesdays April 13 and 27 from 1-3PM. When you register for the 13th you will be automatically registered for the 27th. Participants need to commit to attend both sessions. These sessions will include short breaks as well as time to work on activities.
Workshop materials sent to participants will include a copy of the booklet Promising Practices: A Guide for Library Staff, samples of the Reimagining School Readiness Toolkit resources, and components for a hands-on activity.
Registration is limited to Massachusetts public library staff. Sessions will not be recorded. Previously recorded webinars are available on the toolkit link below.
