This session will discuss Native Americans today in libraries. Naomi will present on stereotypes, tropes, and appropriation of Native Americans, TribalCrit, and Native Nations today. She will share resources for librarians on collection development, programming, and other resources for librarians and library staff.

About the Instructor: Naomi Bishop, MLIS, is Akimel O'otham/Pima and a member of the Gila River Indian Community of Arizona. She served as President of the American Indian Library Association (AILA) from 2017-2018. Naomi chaired the American Indian Youth Literature Awards Committee from 2014-2018. She created an online module for librarians and educators on Indigeneity and Colonialism for Project Ready: Reimagining Equity & Access for Diverse Youth from an IMLS grant at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She received her Masters of Library and Information Science degree from University of Washington in 2010. Naomi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in German Studies from the University of Arizona. She is a member of the Medical Library Association; the American Indian Science and Engineering Society, and the American Indian Library Association.
