Readers' Advisory Roundtable - West, Genre Study Speculative Teen Fiction

Readers' Advisory Roundtable - West, Genre Study Speculative Teen Fiction In-Person

Our genre study for September is Speculative Teen Fiction.  Our benchmark is Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger.  Elatsoe is a Lipan Apache with the ability to raise the ghosts of dead animals and who is trying solve the murder of her cousin.  Select another title in speculative teen fiction for your second example of the genre to share with the group.  We meet bimonthly to explore various genres and how to use them to meet the reading needs of our users.  In the between months, we share what we are reading/viewing/listening to in our book chat discussions.

In this year’s genre study, we are continuing to meet via jitsi to learn about the appeal of particular genres, the readers who may enjoy them, and ways to incorporate appropriate genre titles and authors into our readers’ advisory services.  We select a benchmark title that we all read, and then each of us reads a second of the genre as our personal selection.  We discuss and compare the titles and their characteristics. We also find items of alternate media in the same general area using our whole collections as a resource

For questions or suggestions, contact Jan Resnick (njrezz@comcast.net) or Alene Moroni (amoroni@forbeslibrary.org).

Join us for conversation, edification, and an opportunity to share reading/viewing/listening opportunities.
