HR Series: Manage the Interview: How to Land the Ideal Candidate In-Person

Course Description:

Inside this highly interactive workshop, participants will learn to develop behavioral-based questioning strategies to uncover hidden talents of job candidates, while successfully navigating legal requirements.

Through facilitator-led instruction, partnered exercises, group discussion, hands-on interview question development, role play, and practice using candidate evaluation tools, Master the Interview participants will dev lop techniques to successfully prepare and deliver an interview designed to land the ideal candidate.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define legal obligations for individuals involved in the hiring process
  • Distinguish the difference between legal and illegal questions Identify and define competencies associated with the job
  • Develop behavioral-based interview questions focused on job-related competencies
  • Conduct an interview leveraging behavioral-based questions while remaining legally compliant Evaluate candidate viability objectively using standardized evaluation tools

Intended Audience: This workshop is intended for current managers and supervisors.

Facilitator Bio:
Pam Thornton, Director of Strategic HR Services, EANE

Pam Thornton spent 16 years in the staffing and recruiting industry, working with companies in executive-level placement and a wide array of HR functions including performance, discipline and engagement. She spent 10 years in private industry in HR capacities for nationally-recognized companies including LEGO Systems and K2 Sports.  She is a past president of the Human Resource Management Association of Western New England; she is a past president of the Young Professional Society of Greater Springfield where she was active for seven years. Pam has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Human Resources Management with a concentration in Strategic Human Resources from Bay Path College.
