Readers' Advisory Roundtable - West, Genre Study Adult/Young Adult Crossover Titles

Readers' Advisory Roundtable - West, Genre Study Adult/Young Adult Crossover Titles In-Person

Our Reader's Advisory Round Table of Western MA genre study for January is a discssion of crossover titles between adlt and young adult readers.  Our benchmark is The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, the first in her Wayfarers series.  A mismatched yet fascinating crew accepts a mission in the far reaches of space.

We meet bimonthly to explore various genres and how to use them to meet the reading needs of our users.  This year we are continuing to meet via jitsi to talk about the appeal of a particular genre, the readers who may enjoy that genre, and ways to incorporate them into our readers’ advisory services.  We select a benchmark title that we all read, then each of us reads a second of the genre as our personal selection.  We discuss and compare the titles and their characteristics. We also find items of alternate media in the same general area using our whole collections as a resource.

For questions or suggestions, contact Jan Resnick (njrezz@comcast.net) or Alene Moroni (amoroni@forbeslibrary.org).
