Readers' Advisory Roundtable - West, Genre Study: Historical Fiction (New England Flavor) In-Person
Join us in December for our Reader’s Advisory Round Table genre study of historical fiction with a New England flavor. Our benchmark is What is Visible by Kimberly Elkins, the fictionalized story of Laura Bridgman, the first and less famous deaf and blind person to learn language at Howe's Perkins Institution. We meet bimonthly to explore various genres and how to use them to meet the reading needs of our users. We meet online and discuss the appeal of a particular genre, the readers who may enjoy that genre, and ways to incorporate them into our readers’ advisory services. We select a benchmark title that we all read, then each of us reads a second of the genre as our personal selection. We discuss and compare the titles and their characteristics. We also find items of alternate media in the same general area using our whole collections as a resource.
In the between months, we share what we are reading/viewing/listening to in our book chat discussions. Join us for conversation, edification, and an opportunity to share reading/viewing/listening selections.
For questions or suggestions, contact Jan Resnick (njrezz@comcast.net) or Alene Moroni (amoroni@forbeslibrary.org).
