Sustainable Change Management: Communication

Sustainable Change Management: Communication In-Person

With successful change management, as with many aspects of library leadership, it’s not the thought that counts; it’s how well you communicate it. At the onset of your project, you can gain buy-in by framing your ideas in a way that appeals to the values of different stakeholders, such as organizational management, staff, patrons, and potential collaborators. As you begin the implementation phase, it’s important to keep both internal and external audiences up-to-date on the progress of the change at each stage so there are no surprises. Finally, in order to sustain change, it is helpful to document impact so that you can celebrate small wins and make any necessary adjustments for the long haul.

In this workshop, we will explore research, strategies, and tools for communicating change successfully, punctuated by video clips demonstrating the process at one library (from the webinar “Are We There Yet? How to Keep Organizational Momentum Going After the Excitement of Change Is Over” by Cinthya Ippoliti). You will also have opportunities for hands-on practice.

By the end of this program, you will be able to:

  • Identify best practices for presenting your change project to organizational leadership.
  • Develop a plan to keep internal and external audience apprised of changes at your library.
  • Assess and communicate the impact of a change at your library.

Facilitator: Kelly Jo Woodside, MA Library System consultant

Featured speaker: Cinthya Ippoliti is the associate dean for research and learning services at Oklahoma State University, where she provides administrative leadership for the library’s academic liaison program as well as services for graduate and undergraduate students.

This workshop is part 2 of a 2-part sequence. You may wish to consider registering for part 1, Sustainable Change Management: Motivation, which will be offered on the same day. You may attend either or both workshops. Please feel free to bring a bag lunch if you plan to attend both.
